Big Chill Surf Cantina sets ‘Chillin’ for a Cure’ April 14
"Supporting our community is just part of our DNA," says Lincoln "Linc" Rogerson, owner and general manager for Big Chill Surf Cantina. The popular Rehoboth Beach watering hole is a favorite destination among Sussex County locals and visitors alike who appreciate its cool drink selection, along with a commitment to lending a helping hand within the local community.
Rogerson and his Big Chill team are doing just that by partnering with Allison Knox and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the fight against these diseases. Together they're hosting Chillin' for a Cure - a special fundraiser Saturday, April 14, from 7 to 10 p.m. Rogerson promises there will be plenty of fun, along with a donation from the evening's proceeds. He says there will also be drink specials, a silent auction, plus a 50/50 raffle, and live music by Jim & Joe of Chorduroy.
"The statistics are frightening," says Knox, who has personally felt the impact of having a family member diagnosed with this disease. According to LLS statistics, blood disease claims the lives of 160 people each day in the United States. "That's one person every nine minutes!" says Knox. "We're so grateful to LaVida and Big Chill for their willingness to help."
LaVida Hospitality Group is the management team that oversees Big Chill Surf Cantina - a longtime supporter of many Sussex County charitable causes, including Movember men's health, education and teacher support, homeless citizens, SPCA, and Grass Roots Rescue. Rogerson says Big Chill has also supported the MERR Institute, Center for The Inland Bays and the Rehoboth Beach Fire Co.
"We love locals and visitors in our community, and giving back is the right thing to do for those in need," he says. "We really admire the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and all the work they do."
