Big Oyster Brewery donates to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, local first responders
Recently, Big Oyster Brewery of Lewes hosted members of the Lewes Fire Department and Emergency Response Team for a check presentation from the first Public Pilsner cans released for sale. Also in attendance were Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, Speaker of the House Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach, and Rep. Steve Smyk, R-Milton.
“We are so grateful to have the opportunity to show gratitude to the sacrifice and service of both these kinds of organizations and foundations. They are truly American heroes who deserve our respect, recognition and support,” said Hamer. “Please, whether at the brewery or from your local package store, grab the Pilsner and give it a try, and know you’re doing it for a good cause. Just look for the can with the big red barn.”
Big Oyster Brewery, named 2018’s second-fastest growing craft brewery in the U.S., has expanded on its popular line of canned craft brews. The addition of Public Pilsner, a cold-lagered German-style pilsner brewed with a nod to tradition, has added depth to its portfolio, with a good cause behind it. Can purchases of Big Oyster Brewery Public Pilsner from Big Oyster Brewery or in package stores across Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania will see a part of the proceeds donated to two causes near and dear to owner Jeff Hamer’s heart.
Big Oyster Brewery, in operation since 2015, brews various styles of craft beer using fresh and local ingredients. It is located at 1007 Kings Hwy. in Lewes. In addition to the brew operation, on-site is a full-service restaurant serving lunch and dinner daily and featuring various off-season specials and four-packs of canned beer to go.
Recurring quarterly donations will be issued to both the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers foundation and other local first responder groups from the Delaware beaches. Tunnel to Towers honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life Sept. 11 to save others. The foundation also provides support to the nation’s military and first responders. Its mission is to provide support for injured service members, families of fallen first responders, and Gold Star families. Ninety-three cents of every dollar donated to the foundation goes directly to programs, and to date it has pledged over $250 million in financial assistance.
