Bill H. Meehan, had great sense of humor

January 22, 2020

Bill H. Meehan passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at his home in Millsboro.  He was born April 17, 1953, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Wilfred Meehan and the late Patricia (McIntyre) Meehan.

After graduating from high school in Staten Island, Bill opened his own business designing and staging window displays for local businesses there. His interest in design and his entrepreneurial spirit then shifted to the creation of  original artificial silk trees and shrubs that were shipped around the world. His career in design later made a more special turn and involved helping clients to choose and have installed floors that met their goals for their homes or businesses.  Bill’s career culminated in a unique way when he and his husband-to-be, Abraham Kawaihalau, started to breed and raise Havanese dogs.

Growing up in New York City allowed Bill to develop a love for Broadway musicals.  He enjoyed socializing with friends and strangers, and this enjoyment was fulfilled by his wonderful sense of humor and by his smile that could light up a room. Indeed, Bill has made many friends through his love of the Havanese - friendships that will be a legacy.

He is survived by his loving husband, Abraham Kuulei Kawaihalau; loving brother Gary Meehan; sister Patricia Hazen; dearest brother-in-law Dennis Hazen; and sister-in-law Patricia Meehan.  Bill cherished his surviving nephews (Matthew and Justin Meehan and Dennis Hazen Jr.) and his dear great-nieces (Ella, Ashley and Charlotte Meehan).  Bill was preceded by his brother Gregg Meehan.

Services were private.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations made to Brandywine Valley SPCA, Georgetown Campus, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE  19947.
