Bipartisan forum to host candidates for Delaware governor Oct. 19
The League of Women Voters of Sussex County will host a public forum featuring candidates for Delaware governor from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Arts and Science Center Theater at Delaware Technical Community College, Georgetown. The forum will also be streamed live via YouTube on the League of Women Voters of Sussex County, Delaware channel.
Candidates running for the office are Matt Meyer, Democrat, and Michael Ramone, Republican.
Following brief opening statements, the candidates will answer questions from the audience. Attendees are encouraged to bring written questions, legibly printed on a 3-by-5-inch card. Note cards and pencils for posing questions will also be available at the door and from monitors in the aisles throughout the program.
Tiffany Geyer Lydon, state league president, will serve as moderator, and ASL Connections will provide sign language interpretation.
The Delaware governor’s primary responsibility is to oversee the operation of the executive branch of government and serve as the main spokesperson for the state. As the state's chief executive officer, the governor is responsible for implementing state laws and can also advance new or revised policies and programs in a variety of ways, including executive orders, executive budgets, and legislative proposals and vetoes.
The candidates for governor have been asked to post background information and their answers to questions on key issues at VOTE411.org, the LWV online voters’ guide.
To maintain a neutral atmosphere at the forum, the league prohibits electioneering in the room, including wearing clothing, hats, buttons or other items promoting either candidate.
With the aim to encourage active and informed participation in government and to increase understanding of public policy issues, the league is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for elective office.
