BJs Wholesale in Millsboro draws eager shoppers

February 6, 2009
More than a month after BJ’s Wholesale Club opened its doors to a rush of eager customers in Millsboro, shoppers have continued to fill the aisles of the massive store in search of everything from groceries and fresh baked goods to beauty supplies and electronics.

While perusing the grounds of the 119,500-square-foot shopping center, customers haven’t voiced many complaints, said BJ’s spokesmen, besides the occasional comment that it takes quite a stroll to see everything the club has to offer.

With particularly strong sales predictions and membership on the rise, store General Manager Scott Anthony said shoppers have given BJ’s the ultimate welcome to the Millsboro area. After a successful opening week in mid-December and a hugely attended grand opening Jan. 10, the third location in Delaware is off to a great start, he said.

“BJ’s is excited to open in Millsboro, and we look forward to serving this community,” said Anthony. “Area residents now have an even more convenient location to purchase everything they need from groceries to general merchandise and jewelry in just one stop.”

Boasting close to 20 separate departments with a stock of more than 7,000 products, the store has already become a favorite shopping destination for many area families in the short time it has been open, said Assistant Public Relations Manager Maria Fruci.

While the variety and selection of products at the store have drawn customers to join the club, said Fruci, the value and savings at BJ’s have kept customers shopping.

“Now more than ever people are really seeing the value of shopping at a wholesale club,” said Fruci. “People who have come here, not knowing what to expect, have been happy to see our wide variety of high-quality, name-brand products at low prices. Because of this, we are seeing more and more people here daily.”

For those who have never visited a BJ’s Wholesale Club, plenty of surprises are in store, she said. The Millsboro location includes a bakery, a home-improvement department, a gasoline station, an auto-part and tire center, food court, fresh floral center, delicatessen and more.

The club even carries many easy-to-prepare restaurant-brand foods, said Fruci, which give the consumer a chance to bring a restaurant dining experience to the home.

Also supplying everything from pet products to DVDs and everyday staple items, she said the shopping destination offers unparalleled convenience to its customers.

BJ’s is also the only warehouse club to accept all manufacturers’ coupons, she added, which gives customers additional savings. “If you normally buy your packaged groceries, health and beauty items and household cleaners at a supermarket, switching to BJ’s can save you more than 30 percent,” she said.

While a basic membership to the store costs around $45 for a family or business, the cost of membership is more than regained by everyday savings, said Fruci.

While BJ’s has continued to strive to serve its customers, it also has worked to create a positive impact on the community. Since the the new club openend, it has donated $2,500 to the Christian Storehouse in Millsboro and $500 to East Millsboro Elementary for the school’s dedication to excellence.
