Boast the Coast celebrates Lewes' maritime heritage

Boast the Coast, a maritime festival sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Lewes' nautical heritage, kicked off a weekend of special events. On Oct. 1, the streets of Lewes were filled with shoppers, visitors to the Lewes Historical Society craft fair, Lightship Overfall and Cannonball House.

Other Boast the Coast events included children's activities with Flumpa and Friends, Chuckles the Clown, tours of the A.J. Meerwald and a concert by the Northern Neck Chantey Singers.

Top honors in the 16th annual lighted-boat parade that night went to: Sea Scout training vessel in the sailing division; No Name in the small power boat division; and Miss Maggie in the large power boat division. Judges were Orville Mills, Boast the Coast chairman; and council members Ted Becker, Fred Beaufait and Victor Letonoff.

Honorable mentions went to: A.J. Meerwald, sailing division; Wet Foot and Shore Movement in the small power boat division; and Donna M and Lewes Fire Department fire boat in the small power boat division.
