Krupanski began his tenure with Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware in 1990 and is credited with growing the organization's statewide presence from five clubs to 43, including girls in club membership, extending reach of programs and services from 5,000 kids to 35,000 served annually, growing the operational budget from $5 million to $18 million and numerous other accomplishments. Krupanski will continue for the next year as advisor, assisting with government relations and special gifts.
"I am grateful for having the opportunity to serve as the head of the Boys & Girls Club for the last 27 years. It has put me in touch with so many wonderful people throughout our state who are equally committed to helping young people, particularly those in need. Together, we have made a huge difference for so many kids," said Krupanski. "I am equally excited with the new leadership that John will bring to our organization."
Wellons, who has been serving as president since January 2017, joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware in 2012 as chief of staff, and prior to that held numerous board positions. Wellons said, "I am humbled by the opportunity to lead an organization filled with so many talented professionals who ensure the healthy development of thousands of Delaware children. George has laid a great foundation for our team to achieve its mission, and I eagerly accept the challenge of following him in this leadership role."
Krupanski will be honored with an evening of tribute Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington.
