Brian Wesley Powell, had a passion for music

April 19, 2022

Brian Wesley Powell was born April 21, 1978, in Beebe Hospital, Lewes. He passed away peacefully Saturday, April 16, 2022, in Christiana Seasons Hospice Care, Wilmington; five days shy of his 44th birthday.

Brian worked hard for everything he achieved despite his constant struggle with substance use disorder. Even though Brian had great difficulty in the academic setting throughout his school years, he had an incredible amount of technical knowledge, general knowledge and mechanical ability. There wasn't an engine he couldn't fix, and in construction, he could build just about anything from the blueprints he had in his head. In addition, Brian was an extremely talented musician; he played alto sax, tenor sax, drums, harmonica, guitars, mandolin, and keyboard, and used his vocal ability to sing songs that he composed as well as many songs from his favorite bands. In his teen years, Brian was a member of the band Cirrus; later he spent six years performing with the band Pivot. His passion for original music was legendary. Wherever Brian went, even at a very young age, he either knew somebody, or left having made new friends. Brian's witty humor was enjoyed by all who knew him, especially his uncanny ability to make everyone laugh with his mimicking skills.

Brian is survived by his parents, William and Pauline Powell; two brothers, Michael William Powell and Jason Matthew Powell; his three children whom he adored, Kayla Morrison and her husband Connor, Archer Cairn and his wife Shaylee, and William Wesley Powell II; his grandson, Davis Morrison; many aunts, uncles, and cousins in both America and England; along with numerous friends. Brian will be remembered and greatly missed by all.

A celebration of Brian's life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 14, at Lewes Senior Activity Center, 32083 Janice Road, Lewes. All who cared about Brian are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, send contributions in Brian's name to Delmarva Adult and Teen Challenge, 611 3rd and North St., Seaford, DE 19973.
