Byzantine liturgy to be celebrated at St. Jude July 29

Location change facilitates parking and highway access

Fr. Volodymyr Klanichka, pastor of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Wilmington, will celebrate a Byzantine liturgy at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, July 29, at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Lewes.

One of many Eastern rites in the Catholic Church, the service is open to all Christian believers, although only members of the Catholic Church, including the Latin Rite, may receive Holy Communion. The Eucharistic liturgy fulfills the Roman Catholic obligation to participate in Sunday Mass.

A team of laity from St. Nicholas accompanies their pastor to the beach area to provide an opportunity to share the beauty and rich tradition of the Ukrainian Rite.

Hosted in recent years at St. Edmond’s, the summer observance has relocated to St. Jude to allow an earlier start time and avoid the challenge of parking downtown and the traffic snarl headed north on Sunday evenings.
