CAMP Rehoboth, a community organization dedicated to creating a more positive environment for the gay and lesbian community, hosted the Broadwalk on the Boardwalk April 10, raising more than $5,000 for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. This walk was part of CAMP Rehoboth’s Women’s Fest 2011 Weekend, a four-day event that included entertainment, workshops, and more.
The Broadwalk on the Boardwalk had more than 175 women and men participate. The Rehoboth Boardwalk was a “sea of pink” where participants wore pink Tshirts, some of which were custom-made, and pink feather boas. Participants walked to remember those who have lost their battle with breast cancer and honor those who are survivors.
Sponsors for the event included Long and Foster Realtor Karen Gustafson, Natalie Moss, CPA, and Eveylyn Manmeyer, Julie Peters and Joan LeLacher, Sign-a-rama and Lori’s Café. A matching donation of $1,000 was generously donated by SSD Technology Inc.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with CAMP Rehoboth to involve breast cancer survivors as well as volunteers in the coalition’s programs going forward,” said Cheryl Doucette, a program manager in the coalition's Lewes office. “It’s a perfect collaboration - DBCC is focused on making sure the needs of Sussex County women are met and addressing the barriers to screening and CAMP Rehoboth wants to become more involved in the community.”
Lewes program managers Cheryl Doucette and Connie Holdridge presented a class April 9 as part of the Women’s Fest 2011 Weekend at CAMP Rehoboth. Their class was called “Breast Cancer: Navigating Your New Normal” and was a break-out session for attendees. Breast cancer survivor and CAMP Rehoboth community member Marsh Zellhoeser of Lewes presented her thoughts about having a website during one's breast cancer journey as a way to keep friends and family updated on the reatment.
