Cape and Delmar dominate Bi-State Field Hockey Challenge

The annual Bi-State Field Hockey Challenge at Champions Stadium featuring Queen Anne’s County and Pocomoke of Maryland versus Cape Henlopen and Delmar of Delaware proved not very challenging for First State teams.

Cape defeated Queen Anne’s 6-0 and Pocomoke 12-0, while Delmar beat Pocomoke 10-1 and Queen Anne’s 6-0. Each team played a game Sept. 8 and 9. 

Cape outshot Queen Anne’s 16-1, with a 13-0 advantage in penalty corners in a Sept. 8 game.

Addy Basile led the scoring with three goals. Adding goals were Lulu Rishko, Macy Steinwedel and Devon DeGregory. Grace Wiggins was credited with two assists, while Rishko also had one. Morgan Newcomb and Anna Lopez shared time in the goal cage.

The dozen goals scored by Cape against Pocomoke were highlighted by freshman Atia Sabbagh’s four goals, while Degregory notched a hat trick and Basile recorded two. Single goals were scored by Grace Wiggins, Hannah Maney and Emily Wells. 

Cape outshot Pocomoke 31-0. 

Jordan Hollamon scored a total of nine goals in Delmar’s two victories.

Cape heads into a big week hosting Lake Forest at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, followed by Smyrna at Cape at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14.
