Cape junior transfer Brad Marks pitched a four-inning shutout March 21, allowing just two hits and striking out five in the Vikings’ 16-2 five-inning victory over Milford.
The Vikings’ bats dominated, as they collected 15 hits in the game. Isaac Terhune and Trey Hitchcock led the Cape offense with three hits each; they had two and three RBIs, respectively. Jase Mitchell and Lex Wescott each had a pair of hits and garnered an RBI.
“Our offense came ready to play again today,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “Brad Marks did a nice job on the mound in tough, cold, windy conditions. He threw five solid innings.”
“All my pitches were working,” said Marks, who transferred to Cape from Saint Mark’s. “Some of the counts got squeezed, but I just powered it through it. Knowing I have a great team behind me helps to relax me.”
Jaxon Clampitt went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Malachi Woods, Brady Kosc and Aaden Johnson each slammed an RBI.
Joshua Miller had a hit and a run scored for Milford.
Cape tops Kent Island
Clampitt threw four shutout innings and picked up the win as the Vikings defeated Kent Island 12-0 March 22 on the road.
Gage Joseph went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Brian Fleming and Terhune each went 3-for-4, with Fleming slugging an RBI. Mitchell, Wescott, Hitchcock, Clampitt and Aaden Johnson each knocked in a run.
“We came out swinging the bats again, putting up runs in the first inning,” said Evick. “Jaxon Clampitt was lights out on the mound in the first and setting the stage for the rest of the game. He had great stuff, allowing no runs. Isaac, Brian and Gage all had three hits each, and Gage had a mammoth three-run home run. We’re swinging the bats very well, and our pitching is starting to catch up.”
The 3-0 Vikings have outscored opponents 40-9.
They will host Caesar Rodney Tuesday, March 26, at Chris Short Field.
