The Cape boys' lacrosse team, fresh off a 13-0 March 23 home win over Milford that left the team feeling flat, traveled to Middletown March 25 to battle the always dangerous Cardinals - sometimes called Saints - of St. Andrew's.
The Vikings got after St. Andrew's behind sophomore sensation Luke Benson, who scored 8 goals from crank shots to bouncers from steep angles as the Vikings sailed to an easy 14-5 victory.
"We beat them to the ball, and when Luke got his hands free, he made it count,” said coach Jack Lingo.
Cape led the game at halftime 14-5.
Todd Keen and Jerome Johnson each scored 2 goals while Connor Brown and Sean Grogan had single tallies.
Joseph Dworkin 2, John Macintosh, Matt Grippo and John Marshall accounted for the St. Andrew’s scoring.
The Vikings outshot the Saints 29-17.
In the 13-0 win over Milford, goals were scored by Luke Benson 4, Matt Kane 4, Jerome Johnson 2 and singles from Logan Mathews and Nick DiGuglielmo.
Cape had 57 shots on goal while Milford had 9.
“We shot poorly against Milford, only 13 goals on 57 shots. Coaches Joey [Vavala] and Malek [Lopez] are doing a good job," said Lingo.
Cape plays at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, at Sussex Central, and at 4 p.m., Friday, March 30, at Smyrna.
