Cape community sends Vikings off to battle for state title

Parents, boosters and officials show support at Nicola pre-game meal
December 1, 2023

Before the Cape football team departed for its state championship game against Salesianum Dec. 1, fans rallied around the young men during their traditional pre-game meal at Nicola Pizza in a show of support.

The team has been eating at Nicola Pizza prior to their games during the championship run and was sure to continue the tradition on the biggest day of their varsity football careers. Although some parents were overcome with emotion as they processed the magnitude of the occasion, the players appeared poised to meet the moment.

As they casually strolled down Nico-boli Boulevard, the players were locked into whatever mindset each needed to lock into. Some laughed, others were dead serious, and a few seemed completely at peace with just hours to go before they chase glory at the University of Delaware.

Aaron Mushrush joined the sports team in Summer 2023 to help cover the emerging youth athletics scene in the Cape Region. After lettering in soccer and lacrosse at Sussex Tech, he played lacrosse at Division III Eastern University in St. David's, PA. Aaron coached lacrosse at Sussex Tech in 2009 and 2011. Post-collegiately, Mush played in the Eastern Shore Summer Lacrosse League for Blue Bird Tavern and Saltwater Lacrosse. He competed in several tournaments for the Shamrocks Lacrosse Club, which blossomed into the Maryland Lacrosse League (MDLL). Aaron interned at the Coastal Point before becoming assistant director at WMDT-TV 47 ABC in 2017 and eventually assignment editor in 2018.
