Cape cross country teams race Dover and Smyrna

The colors red, blue and gold ran under dark clouds and over the green grass on the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment campus Oct. 19 as Cape hosted Dover and Smyrna in a cross country triangular meet for both boys and girls.

Cape had the No. 1 runner in each race as Austin MacElrevey won the boys' race in 18:24 while Ali Coning won the girls' in 20:51.

The boys' team score had Cape beating Smyrna 27-30 but losing to Dover 24-35.  Low score wins in cross country and is always written first. Dover also defeated Smyrna 17-44.

The top 10 boys in order of finish and their times were Austin MacElrevey, Cape, 18:24; Dakota Graham, Dover, 18:40; Stephen Hierl, Dover, 18:46; Saleel Cohert, Dover, 19:05; Luke DiGuglielmo, Cape, 19:07; Ryan Thornburg, Cape, 19:29; Jake Hughes, Smyrna, 19:57; Dannie Powell, Dover, 20:01; Wyatt Thurman, Dover, 20:07; and Ludric Francis, Smyrna, 20:16.

Other Cape finishers were Sean Sheehan, 21:53; Aubrey Inkster, 23:02; and Cory Kreis, 23:28.

In the girls' competition Cape defeated Dover 21-34 but was beaten by Smyrna 24-34. Smyrna also defeated Dover 15-49.

The top 10 girls in order of finish and their times were Ali Coning, Cape, 20:51; Shanel Dickens, Cape, 21:37; Tori Vickers, Smyrna, 22:33; Emilee Virdin, Smyrna, 22:42; Maura Hossler, Smyrna, 22:57; Erin Cooper, Smyrna, 23:15; Deaetta Grinnage, Smyrna, 23:47; Alanis Hernandez, Smyrna, 23:47; Grace Hetfield, Cape, 24:05; and Alice Miller, Dover, 24:05.

Other Cape girls and their times include Madison MacElrevey, 24:22; Maggie Heffernan, 25:07; Emma Trugman, 25:08;  Olivia Taylor, 25:56; and Bethany Euler, 26:57.

Cape's next competition is a tri-meet at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, at home versus Sussex Tech and Milford.
