The Cape Gazette launches its newest publication: The Current

April 21, 2023
This summer, the Cape Gazette is collecting everything locals and visitors love about the Delaware beaches in one place. Starting May 18, The Current, a weekly, socially driven paperzine focused on local happenings, beach culture, and the changemakers stirring up the Delaware beaches will be available free in its signature yellow courtesy boxes.

Created for the people who make the Cape Region the place to be in the summer months or just for a weekend, and those who call it home permanently, The Current plays on a desire to look under the hood by highlighting the unsung heroes, local trendsetters, athletes, artists, business owners, and trailblazers making an impact on the resort community and surrounding areas. It’s something to be part of, to participate in and interact with — a promoter of good times.

Tara Marks, production and development manager, said of the launch, “We are continually pushing ourselves to deliver the best product in the best format, and The Current is born from these efforts.”

After 22 years of publication, Cape Gazette is retiring the Beach Paper brand that has reliably served as its free guide to the Delaware beaches. The yellow courtesy boxes at convenient points around area towns, previously used for the Beach Paper, will be put to new use. They’ll get a bit of a facelift with new branding and deliver the goods every Thursday from May 18 to Sept. 7.

The official launch in May will also usher in changes to social media channels and a new, dedicated website to serve fresh, cross-platform content across multiple mediums. Readers can also sign up for The Weekly Current, a weekly e-newsletter, to receive updates directly to their inbox.

“The Current is designed to celebrate the local community, and to share the fascinating stories of the people who make the beach region so special,” said Tracy Toscano, creative director. “We really aim to provide readers with an authentic and engaging experience featuring stories, interviews, and photos that capture the essence and joy of the region.”
