Cape got off to a fast start and kept up the pressure Dec. 12, defeating Sussex Central 49-20 in Georgetown.
Senior Hayden Hudson crept closer to the Cape rebound record with 14 in the game. She also swiped three steals and blocked two shots.
“It wasn’t our best game,” said Hudson. “But it was nice for everyone to get more experience. It showed us some of the best parts of our game and highlighted what we need to continue to work on. It also showed us how good we can possibly be when everything comes together.”
Junior forward Amalia Fruchtman recorded a line of 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Mya Yngve scored five points and made four steals.
Faith Re scored six points while dishing off five assists.
“It wasn’t our most competitive game of the season,” Re said. “But we were able to get some of the younger players more playing time and experience, which will be good for us in later games.”
Junior Sydney Whetzel came off the bench and had a career game, scoring eight points and 10 rebounds.
Mikaela Gordon, Laura Lima, Naisae Ngido and Jurnee White teamed for 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Cape took a 33-7 lead into the halftime break and outscored the Knights 16-13 to cruise to the 29-point victory.
“Central has gotten better,” said Cape head coach Pat Woods. “They play hard and work to execute their stuff. They have several young players that will continue to improve. I was happy with how our team played, and we were able to see some good things from our younger players. At this point in the season, we are focused on finding out what Xs and Os work for us, and what players can do them effectively.”
The JV Vikings ran past the Knights junior varsity 38-6. Kallea Eleazar had 16 points, while Jordynn Bowe tallied 15.
