Cape girls’ lax team celebrates season

Monigle receives MVP Award

The Cape Henlopen High School girls’ lacrosse team celebrated its 2021 state championship season with an end-of-season banquet June 24 at Baywood Greens.

The evening began with a season review from Cape Gazette’s Dave “Fredman” Frederick. Awards were presented after a buffet dinner.

The Unsug Hero Awards were presented to Kelly Bragg, Destiny Kusen and Ella Rishko. The Coaches Awards were presented to Lindsay Rambo, Lindsay D’Ambrogi and Mackenzie Brown. The Kesmodel Award went to Haley Craig, Lexi Nowakowski and Lulu Rishko. The Running Award was presented to Jocelyn Leach. The Ground Ball Award was presented to Molly Mendes. Megan Smith garnered the Defensive MVP Award, while Riley Keen was given the Offensive MVP Award and also received the Sportsmanship Award. Ally Best received the Most Improved Player Award. 

The team MVP Award was presented to Emily Monigle.

“It was great to come together and celebrate our accomplishments throughout the season,” said head coach Lindsay Underwood. “The coaches are extremely proud of the players and all they were able to do this season after losing last year’s season.”
