The Cape girls’ swim team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 105-65 drenching of Caesar Rodney Dec. 13 at the Sussex Family YMCA. The boys’ squad was defeated 66-104 by their male counterparts.
Cape took control early with Madelyn McGreevy, Sarah Hyde, Molly Weeks and Sarah Rambo posting a 2:00.36 win in the 200 medley relay. Rambo followed with a 2:10.80 win in the 200 freestyle. McGreevy continued the Vikings’ domination with a 2:31.47 first-place finish in the 200 individual medley. Hyde finished first in the 50 free with a 26:97.
Molly Weeks pulled to first place in the 100 butterfly, posting a 1:05.64. Rambo took the 100 free sprint with a time of 59:98. McGreevy brought home the win in the grueling 500 free with a 6:15.87. Weeks swam a 1:08.32 in the 100 backstroke to take first. Hyde showed great pace in winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.28, and the team of Rambo, Weeks, Hyde and McGreevy won the final event, the 400 free relay, with a 4:15.34.
The boys took top honors in three events during the Henlopen Conference meet. Cape sophomore Josh Toback won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.53, while senior Alec Hochrein swam to a 51.11 victory in the 100 free. Senior Michael Schrock won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:11.86.
Cape travels to Dover Tuesday, Dec. 20, for a meet with the Senators.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
