December 13, 2016

The Caesar Rodney girls’ basketball team fell behind 8-0 to the Lady Vikings before getting their engine started Dec. 9. They then fired on all cylinders, handing Cape its first loss of the season 67-44. The Riders moved to 3-0 on the season, while the Vikings are 1-1.

The Vikings went into the intermission down 10 and were outscored 39-26 in the second half. The Riders hit eight three-pointers in the contest.

“We came out strong, going up 8-0,” said Cape coach Lauren Carra. “Defensively, we missed a couple of assignments, and CR built up their lead on our man-to-man breakdowns. We would like to play a running game, but we have to know when to go to the hoop and when to pull it back out.”

Freshman Dania Cannon led the Vikings with 17, while sophomore Alia Marshall added 12.

The Riders were paced by Brionna Brooks and Alexis Reid with 21 and 19, respectively.

The Lady Vikings host the Milford Bucs at 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13.
