Looking to provide those in need in the Cape Region with holiday cheer and support, the Cape Henlopen Senior Center sponsored a holiday program called “Be a Blessing – Blessing Someone in Need During Christmas Season.”
Center members, the board of directors and staff donated items such as socks, gloves, hats, scarves, lotions, assorted toiletry items, gift certificates to a thrift store and more. In total, 112 gift bags were prepared and distributed to the local programs Dec. 20.
Bernita Hackney, CHSC program director, said she wanted to do something new this year by helping those who are less fortunate during this holiday season.
The organizations helped through the program included Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Mount Pleasant Church Open Hands Soup and Clothing Ministry, Sussex Community Crisis House, St. Jude’s Church, Home of the Brave for men and women, Barbara K. Brooks Transition House, and Casa San Francisco. Each person in each of these facilities received a gift bag.
