The 2021 Cape Henlopen state championship field hockey team celebrated its season at a Sunday morning brunch April 10 inside the Baywood Greens banquet room.
Sussex County Councilman Mark Schaeffer, the traveling Proclamation Man, started the banquet by reading and presenting a proclamation to coach Kate Austin in honor of her team. “A team winning 10 state titles in 11 years is just incredible,” Schaeffer said.
The first state championship during the surge was won by coach Nicole Catanzaro Hughes in 2011. Coach Kate Windett Austin has coached Cape to nine state championships
Fred Harvey has been the bus driver for all the hockey and girls’ lacrosse titles since 2009. State championship coaches Carolyn Ivins (1979) and Ruth Skoglund (1995) were in attendance to present awards named in their honor.
