Cape JROTC cadets volunteer at Fort Miles

October 31, 2021

Ten Cape High JROTC cadet volunteers assembled Oct. 21 at Cape Henlopen State Park to assist the Fort Miles Historical Association full-time volunteers with a variety of ongoing renovation projects at the World War II defensive installation.

Cadets did a multitude of jobs under the supervision of FMHA personnel that included painting, scraping paint off exterior walls and digging a trench to locate a broken underground conduit. An additional bonus for the cadets was an opportunity to ascend the observation tower for a comprehensive view of Delaware Bay and the distant New Jersey shoreline. Participating cadets were Daniella Sanchez, Camilla Lascano, Julianna Foote, Robert Fogarty, Emma Dominick, Cole Samson, Zoe Henderschott, Thad Karl, Samantha McCabe and Tyller Maltbie.

This marked the resumption of student volunteers at Fort Miles since early 2020 when activities were halted due to the COVID epidemic.
