Cape junior James Zuber recognized for heroic action
Cape Henlopen High School junior James Zuber was recognized Oct. 24 for his heroic efforts after Cape’s homecoming football game.
Attendee Mike Bacher was leaving the game when he experienced a medical emergency in the parking lot. Bacher has had a heart defibrillator in his chest for 13 years, and it went off for the first time after the game.
Zuber saw Bacher grab his chest and immediately jumped into action, calling 9-1-1, taking Bacher’s pulse and waiting with him for the ambulance to arrive. His quick action and ability to remain calm and keep Bacher calm made a big difference in a serious situation.
In an effort to show their appreciation, Bacher family members surprised Zuber at Cape High with numerous gifts and gift cards to Amazon, Royal Farms and Chick-fil-A. Bacher is now out of the hospital and doing well.
