Cape major softball all-stars fall to Millsboro

The Cape major softball all-stars finished the 2022 postseason run with an 11-5 loss to Millsboro June 27 in Georgetown. They lost their first game 8-6 to Laurel June 26.

Cape’s Teagan Baker knocked in three runs on an inside-the-park home run. Baker went 3.2 innings in the pitching circle, striking out four. Bailey Mears came in from the bullpen and threw 1.1 innings, striking out three.

Addi Zimmerman and Lyla Hunsberger delivered singles in the game. Madilynne O’Malley slammed a double. Zariah Hand walked three times and scored a run.

Millsboro pitcher Kylee Hutton had eight strikeouts, while her team garnered eight hits. Millsboro catcher Carrington Bixby went 2-for-2, including two walks and four runs scored.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
