The Cape Minor League Softball All-Stars used a highlight reel six-run third inning to down Millsboro 9-1 June 30 in Milton.
After the Cape squad took a 3-0 lead, Carlee Cabello slammed a two-out, three-run homer to propel the team to a 6-0 lead.
“It was a fastball right down the middle of the plate,” said Cabello. “I was so happy I was able to contribute to the team’s win.”
Cape outhit Millsboro 6-1. Lexi Crossan went 2-for-3 in the contest. Gia Scott, Lily Frey and Abby Frey each tallied a hit.
Millsboro got on the board in the fifth inning on a run scored by Miranda Adkins.
Cape wasn’t finished, as it had four steals and scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
A fly out, ground out and strikeout in the top of the sixth ended Millsboro’s hopes for a comeback.
Cape pitcher Lily Frey struck out 16 Millsboro batters in the victory. She allowed just one hit.
Cape moves on to play Lower Sussex Thursday, July 6, in Milton.
