The Cape Senior League All-Stars dropped a heartbreaking 18-11 game July 5 at the Lower Sussex baseball complex.
Cape garnered six hits, while Georgetown slugged 11 in the high-scoring affair. Cape was plagued with five errors, while Georgetown made two miscues.
Cape opened the scoring in the first inning with five runs. They added two more in each of the third and fourth innings. Georgetown then turned up the heat, plating nine runs over the next three innings to go into the sixth behind just one run. They rallied to score eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach for Cape.
Timmy Hitchcock led Cape, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Dylan Baker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Aidan Block was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Jackson Wood and Robert Payton IV each had an RBI.
Georgetown’s Talon Savage, Jaquin Rodriguez and Chase Murray garnered three RBIs, while Gabe Cannon and Palmer Schaffer each had two RBIs.
Cape followed the loss with another to Millsboro July 6, falling 7-5. With the win, Millsboro advanced to play Georgetown in the championship round Wednesday, July 7.
