Replenishment work for the bay beach at Cape Shores in Lewes is underway. Crews have been working this week to add sand to the beach just west of Cape Henlopen State Park.
According to a public notice issued in October, the Cape Shores Homeowners Association submitted a subaqueous lands permit application and water-quality certification request to place up to 31,500 cubic yards of sand material from an inland borrow source along 3,200 linear feet of the Delaware Bay beach within Cape Shores. Additionally, Cape Shores requested a Section 401 Water Quality Certification.
DNREC did not issue a public notice that the application had been approved. DNREC also did not respond to a request for information regarding ongoing work at Cape Shores.
