Cape should focus on what’s important

December 3, 2024

The following letter was sent to Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent Bob Fulton with a copy provided to the Cape Gazette for publication.

I implore you to read the letter to the editor from Royce Haynes in the Cape Gazette concerning the needs versus wants for the Cape Henlopen School District.

It is spot on and why both of the recent referendums have failed. When we have teachers within the district telling us to vote it down, we understand the focus, which the board clearly does not. The letter to the editor hits the nail on the head. Grandiose wants should not be the focus.

The steps the board should be taking are subcontracting out the bus service, moving the district offices into portables and making the students and teachers the focus of money spent. If that happens, there is a chance voters will approve the dollars that are truly needed for the students and the teachers. That will build a world-class education system. Lavish offices, bus repair depots and swimming pools will most likely never be approved. Focus on what's important.
