The Cape softball squad delivered 13 hits in an 11-1 win over the Blue Raiders of Woodbridge April 24 at the Vikings’ Bill Cordrey Field.
Cape took the one-run lead in the bottom of the first on a long fly ball by pitcher Abby Marsh that scored Ava Calciano.
The Vikings never looked back.
They scored three in the second inning on a homer by senior Hayden Hudson.
Calciano slammed a triple in the fourth. She scored when senior Alivia Heers grounded out.
In the sixth inning, Hudson hit a sac fly to score Olivia Mekulski. Marsh knocked a single to score Calicano, then Jordynn Bowe slammed a two-run single to score pinch runners Teagan Baker and Adriana Williams. Bowe scored the 11th and final run on a wild pitch.
Marsh went the distance in the circle, throwing a four-hitter and picking up her 11th win of the season. She had seven strikeouts.
“My screwball, rise ball and curveballs were working today,” said the senior hurler.
Hudson had four RBIs in the game, with three coming on her fourth home run of the season.
“She threw me inside the pitch before. She did it again, so I just drove it out. I just hit it hard. Home runs are accidents,” Hudson said. “You just have to hit the ball hard and it might go out.”
The Raiders were led by Abriyah Reed and Kimora Harris with one and two doubles, respectively.
