The Polytech softball seniors were honored before the game and senior pitcher Kaite Burawski allowed just three Vikings hits while striking out 16 batters to hold Cape scoreless and pick up a 1-0 victory May 7 at Woodside.
Cape’s Carlin Quinn delivered at the plate with a double, while Chloe Fluharty and Savannah Reed each got a single.
“This game was a good old-fashioned pitchers’ duel,” said Cape coach Shannon Timmons. “Both pitchers threw well, and our defense was solid in the 1-0 loss. We failed to capitalize on runners in scoring position with no outs in the fourth inning, and that’s the difference in the game.”
Kylie Nagle led Polytech from the plate by going 2-for-3. Madison Hazen, Destiny Whaley and Caitlin McCutchan each added a single.
The Vikings return to the friendly confines of their home field Friday, May 9, to face the Jags of Appoquinimink.
