Cape swimming downs Polytech

The Cape swim teams took care of business against Polytech Dec. 5 at the Lake Forest Aquatics Center. The Cape boys handled the Panthers 107-50, while the girls’ squad swam past the Panthers 105-64.

Cape’s Trent Neal, Luke Robertson, Shane Toback and Kevin Lewandowski won the medley relay with a time of 2:02.05. Brian Fleming took first in the 200 free in 2:08.83. Lewandowski won the 50 free in 25.5. Shane Toback sped to first in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.25. Junior Holden Tighe won the 100 free in 56.26. The 200 free relay team of Fleming, Tighe, Ellis Jack and Lewandowski took first with a time of 1:58.58. Toback won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.16.

The Cape girls’ team started out strong and never looked back. Freshman Hayden Hazzard took top honors in the 200 free in 2:30.56. Junior Jenna Reinhold won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:48.32. Senior Anna Sullivan dunked the field in the 50 free in 29.08. Sidney Caldwell took first in the 100 fly (no time posted). Isla Touw won the 100 free with a time of 1:06.47. Haliey Hassell outlasted the field in the 500 to win in 5:43.71. The 200 free relay team of Reinhold, Hassell, Touw and Sullivan took first in 2:16.65. Reinhold took first in the 100 backstroke in 1:17.66. The 400 free relay team of Reinhold, Hassell, Maddie Mastriani and Sullivan won with a time of 5:10.35.

“Poly is going to be a tough meet for their conference opponents,” said Cape coach Bill Geppert. “They are well coached and super enthusiastic about their team. They just keep getting better and better. I’m proud of our team. They are excited to get the swim season started, and we have a lot of potential to do some great things.”

The Vikings will take on the Golden Knights at the Sussex Academy Aquatics Center Friday, Dec. 15.
