Cape swimming uses inspiration of teammate to down Stephen Decatur

The Cape Henlopen boys' swim team honored their teammate Brent Hochrein by writing his initials on the back of their shoulders and drew inspiration from it to down a tough Stephen Decatur squad 90-80 Jan. 6 at the Sussex Family YMCA.

Hochrein is in A.I. duPont Hospital with a serious illness.

"I swim the 500 with Brent," said junior Richard Brokaw. "Just knowing he would've loved to be there pushed me to do my best."

"Brent has a great work ethic and knowing that he would want to be here kept his spirit in us," said captain Ali Mahdi.

The boys moved to 3-2 on the season with the 90-80 victory over the Seahawks while the girls remained undefeated with a score of 110-60.
