Cape track teams run past Sussex Tech in opening meet

The Cape boys’ and girls’ track teams opened the season at home March 22, with resounding victories over Sussex Tech.

The boys won 90-51 behind double victories from Ryan Baker in the 1,600 and 800, and Josiah Miller in the shot put and discus. 

Yougendy Mauricette of Sussex Tech was high scorer in the meet with 20 points, winning the 110 high hurdles, 400 meters, 200 meters and long jump. 

Cape won the girls’ meet 125-18 led by high scorer Mehkia Applewhite who won the 100 meters, 200 meters, shot put and led off the winning 400-meter relay with Aya Daisey, Kiki Johnson and Noelle Sabbagh. 

Cape swept all the field events, highlighted by Tia Jarvis with a personal-best long jump of 17-feet-5-inches and Reagan Ciabattoni with a distance of 32-feet-6-inches in the triple jump. 

Cape will next compete in a meet Tuesday, March 30, at Sussex Central versus Sussex Central, Sussex Academy and Padua.
