Cape unified basketball battles hard in loss to Bucs

February 24, 2022

It was a battle to the final buzzer Feb. 18, as the Cape unified basketball team dropped a hard-fought game 26-21 to visiting Milford. The Vikings move to 1-4, while the Bucs are 2-4.

Ethan Shuttleworth led the Vikings with six points. Tony Palmer hit for five, while Owen Smith and Mason Morrone each scored two.

“I feel our team did really well,” Palmer said. “I’m just proud that we can be out here playing the game.”

“It’s fun playing on this team,” said senior Elle Nauman. “It was a little tough out there. I like playing defense a lot.”

“It was good competition,” said Garrett Thawley. “I like this team a lot. We play together and like each other and share. I’ve met a lot of nice friends.”

“Since the game was a rescheduled game, we were missing some key players,” said head coach Jenn Hagan. “However those who were there stepped up and played hard. This team truly supports each other and wants all players to shine.”

Milford’s Nathan Waydelis led the Bucs with 16 points. Nick Hurd scored five. Jared Wright hit for three, while Matt Winkleblech scored two.
