The Cape unified basketball squad fell to the Riders 29-15 Dec. 14 at Caesar Rodney.
The Riders jumped out quickly to an 11-2 first-quarter lead, which led to a 17-5 halftime deficit for Cape. The Vikings came out on fire in the second half, outscoring the Riders 6-4 in the third period. The fourth quarter was taken by CR 8-4.
Joseph Delgaudio and Sebastian Turman scored four points for Cape. George Delgaudio, Jacob Schumaier and Donald Jefferson each scored two points. William Barrow added a point for the Vikings.
“We had only two returning unified partners, and the team played amazing,” said Cape head coach Jenn Hagan. “They are full of heart and dedication. Coaching this team is the most rewarding experience I’ve had in 23 years of teaching and coaching.”
The Cape unified team gets back to action Tuesday, Dec. 18, when they welcome Dover. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
