Cape unified basketball falls to Middletown
The Cape unified basketball team ran into a powerful Middletown team Feb. 1 on the Vikings’ home court.
The Cavs defeated the Vikings 41-14 to move Cape to 1-4 on the season. The Cavs are now 2-3.
“I am so proud of our team and the way that they play for the spirit and the integrity of the game, no matter who our opponent is,” said Cape coach Katie Collick. “They continue to uphold the values of making the games fun and lighthearted. Even with it being a DIAA sport with an overall state championship at the end, it is only one of two sports in the state that makes us have a limited roster of 15 players per game. We carry a roster of 22 with rotation of equal playing time since everyone is out here for the right reasons. Some coaches don’t see that, so some games I have to tell some of the partners they aren’t going to be playing and they completely understand, but it breaks my heart, because they are out here just wanting to see the athletes succeed and be happy; others are OK with the every couple minute rotations.”
Connor Pencek and Jerome Kochinsky led the Vikings with four points each. Peyton Lamson-Reich, Zane Richardson and Sara Davis each tallied a basket in the contest.
Senior Night is Tuesday, Feb. 6, when the Vikings play host to the Milford Bucs.
