The Cape boys’ volleyball team defeated Sussex Academy 25-15, 25-14 and 25-9 March 22 on the Seahawks’ home court.
Talan Stephens led the Vikings with 30 assists in the match. Brady Lamb paced the offense, knocking down 10 kills and five digs. Charlie Casas pounded seven kills and bumped four digs. Ryan Diller slammed five kills. Bryce Patterson, Odin Potemski, Tias Small and William Cerf teamed for 10 kills.
“Overall, I’m really happy with our performance tonight,” said Cape head coach Tyler Coupe. “I thought Smyrna overwhelmed us with their size and physicality on Monday. We had to play most the match on our heels. Tonight, outside of our run of service errors in set one, we played aggressive, clean ball. We forced them out of system with our serve , and I thought our in-rally defense was consistent enough to run a great attack at every position. I would like our communication on in-rally situations to be a little crisper, but overall we responded well. I thought Brady [Lamb] and Talan [Stephens] had a great connection tonight. I thought Ryan Diller took some risks out of the middle that will help us as the season evolves, and Niko [Panyko] continues to make progress in the back court as our primary libero.”
Zachary Yenovkian led the Seahawks with four kills and nine digs. Adam Bailey tallied six assists.
“I think we had good spurts during the match,” said Seahawks head coach Vince Failla. “But spurts don’t win in this game. I think we need to do a better job sustaining our clean touches throughout, which we didn’t do. These guys hustle and don’t quit. That’s what I love about them. Height does hurt us. But if we can’t pass or serve the ball inbounds, we won’t win many games.”
Cape will host Conrad Friday, March 24.
