Carla Ann Diksa, had a zest for life
Carla Ann Diksa, 61, passed away after a beautiful sunrise the morning of Wednesday, May 1, 2024, surrounded by the most important men in her life, her husband and three sons. God recognized her strength as a warrior as she battled three bouts of breast cancer over 20 years.
Carla was born Oct. 11, 1962, to Marge (Cheseroni) George-Pompilii and Jack George in Wilmington. Growing up in Little Italy, Carla graduated from Padua Academy in 1980, then excelled in her career, working hard but playing harder.
At 20, while working at the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, Carla met and later married the UPS man, Dennis Diksa. Dennis has been by her side for over 40 years. He has been her rock and has never wavered in his vows and commitment to her. She knew how lucky she was.
Their three sons, Derrick Joseph, Dakota Jack, and Dane Jordan are the three best things they ever did. She loved them unconditionally, was fiercely proud of them, and has said they were her greatest accomplishments.
Carla has always prioritized her role in life as a wife, mommy, daughter, sister, and friend. She was happiest at the drive-on beaches, watching sunsets, riding out thunderstorms, cooking Sunday dinners, dancing to her favorite ‘80s songs, and hosting parties for the holidays, birthdays, or any excuse to get together and be surrounded by those she loved. She had always loved cooking, but in her 50s, she found baking to be a way to relax. Collecting and trying new recipes made her happy, and the icing on top was having others enjoy her food and desserts. Her favorite moments were when family and friends were together laughing.
Carla had an unmatched sense of style, an eye for interior design, a palate for fine foods, and a penchant for breaking the rules in the name of fun. She was a force of nature and had an unwavering zest for life. Her generous, encouraging, unapologetic, dedicated, warm, and wild spirit will be missed.
Carla knew she would be greeted in the afterlife by her father, Jack; grandmother, Fannie; niece, Angelina; and Fil, Joanne, Pop Wally, and Bella.
Carla is survived by the love of her life, Dennis; and her three sons, Derrick, Dakota and Dane. She is also survived by her mother, Marge George-Pompilii; sisters, Dina Hughes and Paula Naylor; nieces, Jaclyn, Jessica and Carliana; her three wiener dogs; and a close circle of friends who know who they are. If she ever told you how lucky she is to have you in her life, she meant it.
In true Carla fashion, she provided notes for her own obituary and requested that there be no service since they are too sad. She wanted her life and memory celebrated with a shot of Patron, Grey Goose, Limoncello, or your favorite drink; that would make her smile. Carla also encouraged everyone to live each day to the fullest, take nothing for granted, and surround themselves with positive people who lift them up. It makes navigating this life easier. Her impact on our lives will be felt beyond her own, and we know that her voice and spirit will continue to guide us.
A celebration of life will be held privately at a later date.
