Carney proclaims March 20 Fresh Air Fund Day
In recognition of The Fresh Air Fund’s 144th summer of bringing together New York City children and volunteer host families in Delaware, Gov. John Carney proclaimed March 20 Fresh Air Fund Day.
Each summer, thousands of volunteer host families open their hearts and homes to children from New York City’s low-income communities, giving them the opportunity to have new experiences, make new friends and explore the outdoors.
Fresh Air host mom Meloney said, “It’s just so much fun to see your summer through the eyes of a child who’s having all these experiences – swimming, seeing waterfalls, horseback riding – for the first time. It makes our summer so much more exciting.”
The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit organization, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children since 1877. The Fresh Air Fund was founded at the height of the tuberculosis epidemic as part of the community response. During the current crisis, The Fresh Air Fund’s commitment to its mission and community only grows stronger.
