Carney visits Funland for DE Wins

Delaware Gov. John Carney and Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach, visited Funland on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk June 18 to discuss the positive impact of DE Wins, a vaccine incentive program sponsored by the State of Delaware.
Delawareans ages 12 and up vaccinated from May 25 to June 29, were entered to win $5,000 in cash and additional prizes in twice-weekly drawings conducted by the Delaware Lottery.
Other prizes included a four-day vacation, a full scholarship to a public Delaware university, annual Delaware State Parks passes, tickets and camping at Firefly Music Festival, and prize packages from partners including Funland, the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Delmarva Shorebirds. The Delaware Lottery conducted twice-weekly drawings on Mondays and Fridays from May 31 through June 30.
At the program’s start, Carney said the goal was to reach a level of 70 percent of adults vaccinated in Delaware in the upcoming weeks, and to continue vaccinating as many Delawareans as possible against COVID-19. “The science is clear. These vaccines are extremely safe and protective against COVID-19 infection and serious illness. Getting your shot is the best way to protect yourself and those you love,” he said.
Funland is giving two packages of 20 ride passes, 20 $10 game coupons and 20 Funland logo manatee stuffed animals. Each prize pack is worth almost $800.
“Our family has been excited to partner with the State of Delaware for the COVID vaccination incentive program,” said Funland owner Chris Darr. “We believe that it is important to vaccinate as many people as possible for the good of our community. When this opportunity presented itself, we did not hesitate to partner with the state. The visit from Gov. Carney and Rep. Schwartzkopf helped to highlight the DE Wins program and the effort to vaccinate younger Delaware residents. We enjoyed showing the governor around the park and how we have adapted to the challenges of the past year. If our involvement helps in any way to increase vaccination counts so we can all get back to doing the things we enjoy, then we will consider it a success.”
