U.S. Sen. Tom Carper took a walking tour of the new Food Bank of Delaware location Sept. 1, as it nears completion in Milford.
The 67,000-square-foot, $34 million facility is expected to be finished in the fall, with operations formally beginning in January. Part of Carper’s reason for visiting was because some of the funding for the facility was provided through the federal American Rescue Plan Act, a 2021 bill intended to speed up the recovery of the American economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which Carper supported and voted in favor of. All in all, the Food Bank received $13 million from the act, $6 million of which went to building construction and the rest toward purchasing food.
