Catherine E. Mayfield, loved flower gardening

Catherine E. (Olivio) Mayfield, 95, of Lewes passed away peacefully Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown.

Catherine was born and raised in Simpson, W.Va., daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (De Vuono) Olivio.  After graduation, Catherine met and married her husband Dewey.  Dewey’s career brought them to many places, including Lewes, where they made their home and raised their family. Catherine was a homemaker and she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and working puzzle books.  She especially loved flower gardening.  She was a former member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 where she enjoyed volunteering when her health had allowed.

In addition to her parents, Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Dewey Elbert Mayfield Jr.; and a brother, Sam Olivio.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Reed; a son, Robert Mayfield (Sally); four grandchildren, Randy Reed, Crystal Holding (Tim), Sheri Canada (Steve) and Kim DeLauri (Chris); seven great-grandchildren, Trevor Reed, Hunter Holding, Austin Holding, Keelin Canada, Karsyn Canada, Gabriella DiLauri and Jessica DiLauri; a brother, Ted Olivio; two nephews, Michael Olivio and Sam Olivio (Kim), and their family.

Due to the current gathering restrictions set forth during the pandemic, a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Village Volunteers, 16686 Kings Highway, Suite B, Lewes, DE  19958, or Meals on Wheels, 32409 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE  19958. Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Milton.
