Catholic Heart Work team spruces up Ellendale man’s home

Youth carry out service projects during summer mission trips
July 15, 2021

The Catholic Heart Workcamp organization is based in Orlando, Fla., and has more than 50 locations around the world. The teams’ mission is to “share the love of Christ as we serve the neglected, brokenhearted and marginalized in any way needed” with Catholic mission trips staffed by youth volunteers.

The CHW chapter of Chester County, Pa., from Our Lady of Consolation Church is busy this summer after students were unable to work last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are eager to help with mission service projects and enjoy opportunities to bond with each other through CHW events and sharing meals together.

From June 28 to July 1, they assisted with home repairs for Ellendale resident Jerry Guyer, who is disabled and grateful for the CHW team’s help. This group’s work included painting and repairing Guyer’s handicap ramp, fence, and house.

The team includes supervisors Bill Mann and Darren Hodorovich with students Abigail Semeneck, 18, Jared Hodorovich, 16, Megan Anderson, 17, Tyler Remphrey, 16, and Nicholas Damiani, 19.

Anderson loves the people at her church and likes how the mission projects give back to the community. Semeneck also enjoys working with CHW. She said her favorite part about the mission work is “strengthening bonds with people you know and developing new ones.”
