Cecil Tucker Sr., lifetime fireman

Cecil “Ray” Tucker Sr. passed away peacefully Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was born May 13, 1942, in Smyrna, to the late Frances Tucker McIntire. Ray is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret Jean Tucker; and daughter, Margaret Ann.

Throughout his life, Ray was employed by businesses in the construction industry such as Shore Building Supply in Lewes and 25 years at Angersteins/Dover Building Supply in Dover. Ray also exemplified dedication and service to his community through his involvement as a lifetime member of the Milton Volunteer Fire Department, where he forged lasting bonds and made significant contributions. He also served Milton Police Department and Stevenson Home Juvenile Detention Center in Milford.

Ray is survived by his loving children, Ray Tucker Jr. and his wife Cheryl, Chuck Tucker and his wife Tami, and Donna Paugh and her husband Richard, all of Georgetown. He was a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren, Nathan Paugh (Ashley), Jennifer Tucker (Jay Hitchens), Renae Paugh (Justin Griffith), Travis Paugh, Sydney Metler (Andrew), Colin Tucker and Gavin Tucker. Additionally, he was blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Connor Paugh, Caleb Paugh, Henley Paugh, Gannon Griffith-Paugh, Cheyenne Berry, Thomas Berry, Kora Hitchens, McKenzie Hitchens and Jaxon Hitchens.

Ray will be remembered fondly for his unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and his service to others. His kindness, generosity, and warmth touched the lives of many, and will continue to be cherished by all who knew him. He is also known throughout the local racing community via the Southern Delaware Vintage Racing Club.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 18, at Watson Funeral Home and Crematorium, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where the viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. John’s Methodist Church Cemetery, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s name to Milton Fire Department, 116 Front St., Milton, DE 19968.
