Charles Elwood Hartlaub, York Casket Co. retiree

Charles Elwood Hartlaub, 92, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gettysburg, Pa., Jan. 28, 1931, to the late Clarence R. Hartlaub and Gladys Whisler Hartlaub.

Elwood retired as a custom casket maker with the York Casket Company. He loved to collect coins and trains, and most importantly, he loved his family.

He is survived by his son, Steven Hartlaub of Pennsylvania; daughter, Susan Whary of Lewes; brother, Richard Hartlaub of Florida; and sister, Linda Shue of Pennsylvania; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Huff Hartlaub; daughter-in-law, Becky Hartlaub; brothers, Jack Hartlaub, Terry Hartlaub, Glen Hartlaub and Ken Hartlaub; and sister, Gladys Thomas.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Mr. Hartlaub's honor to Brandywine Valley SPCA, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947; Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516; or to a charity of choice.
