The CHEER Community Center in Georgetown hosted its annual Military Honor and Patriot Day celebration Sept. 10. The event started with an opening ceremony featuring CHEER board member and Korean War veteran Walter Koopman as speaker. Sussex Central JROTC presented the colors, Cathy Gorman sang the national anthem, the Rev. Chris Cordrey offered the invocation and CHEER CEO Ken Bock welcomed guests. Participating organizations included Air Mobility Command; American Legion Auxiliary 28; Buffalo Soldiers; Delaware Disabled American Veterans; Georgetown Fire Co.; Georgetown Police Department; Home of the Brave; Korean War Veterans Chapter 1; Office of Veterans Affairs; Tuskegee Airmen, John H. Porter Chapter; U.S. Marine Corps; U.S. Submarine Veterans Group Mid-Atlantic Base; Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1105; and Volunteer Delaware 50+ Stockings for Soldiers Project.
