Children’s Beach House goes back to the ’80s

Annual event raises more than $100,000 for CBH
September 1, 2023

The Beach BBQ, also known as “the feel-good party of the summer,” went back to the awesome ’80s Aug. 26, for a night fun to benefit the programs and services at Children’s Beach House in Lewes.

The event featured a buffet by Chaps Pit Beef and CBH chef Paula Baker, ‘80s music by DJ Shelly, beer and wines, an orange crush bar from Paradise Grill, live and silent auctions, and an art show by local artists. Iconic lookalike personalities like Elton John and Cyndi Lauper made appearances and sang for the attendees.

Local artists created one-of-a-kind, 36-inch decorative surfboards for the silent auction. Attendees could also support CBH by purchasing a pair of light-up shades or a fancy fanny pack from the Wish Wall.

"We are so grateful to Kloe Thompson, fleet manager at Freedom Boat Club, and the committee she assembled to host the 20th Children's Beach House Beach Barbecue,” said CBH Executive Director Rich Garrett. “We are humbled by the generosity of this community in support of a group of awesome Delaware children. Business leaders like Tom and Bev Rosella, Chris Desche and so many others came together to raise more than $100,000 for this important cause. We are deeply grateful to all who have supported us through sponsorship, donations, silent auction and auction items. We had an amazing group of dedicated volunteers who helped make the night run smoothly. Please see our thank you ad of all who worked so hard, and help us thank them when you see them in our community."

Children’s Beach House provides programs to children and families throughout area communities. The mission of Children’s Beach House is to improve the lives of children, youth, families and communities by helping them to identify, understand and utilize their own strengths, talents and resources.
