The Circle in Georgetown when it was still called The Square

December 26, 2017

This image of the center of Georgetown - Sussex County's seat of government - appeared on a picture postcard in 1908. This area is now called The Circle but at that time it was called the town square. Note the mature old trees - maybe elms - and the unpaved streets. The walker making his way beneath them provides a sense of the scale of the trees. Also note the Sussex County Courthouse, before its tall, present-day spire was added.
