Claire Carolyn Kindon, dedicated volunteer
Claire Carolyn Kindon (nee Kohn), 100, the youngest of seven children born to Paul John and Kathryn Kohn, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in her home in Lewes. Carolyn’s husband of 54 years, WWII veteran John J. Kindon, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, John (Gloria) of New York and Richard of California; and her nieces, Karen Kohn and Susan Potts of Lewes. She was also blessed with four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Carolyn moved to Lewes in 2009. She volunteered weekly with The Villages, an organization that supports older community members to help them remain in their homes. She was awarded a plaque by Gov. Carper for being the oldest volunteer in the State of Delaware! She continued to volunteer well into her 90s.
She was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she was known as Aunt Carolyn. In addition to volunteering, she insisted on walking three to four miles daily and eating sensibly, habits she attributed to providing her with a long life.
The family is grateful to her aides, Vivian, Kiera and Marian, the clergy of St. Peter’s Church, and Delaware Hospice for the love, care and devotion they gave her.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may donate to Capital Campaign, St. Peter’s Church, 200 Second St., Lewes, DE 19958.
